I have a confession to make.... and it isn't easy to talk about but I have helped people lose weight, and some have kept it off and others haven't. I started wondering why. It can't just be that we are the people with no will power, or bad genes, or too many compounded issues.
Some of us beat ourselves up because we have enough knowledge to know what we are "supposed to do", and yet we feel like our body is the problem. Our body is telling us things, but are we actually listening???
I thought I knew what food noise was, and I also didn't think I had it.
I had emotional eating.
I had boredom eating.
I had times where I fasted.
I had cycles of dieting.
I had food shopping "binging" .... #iykyk
But ... honestly I had food noise.
I can tell because since I started the natural (non-pharma) peptides my ability to stop with a handful of chips or two cookies or to actually not go through the drive thru at Starbucks has been a big change. And when I do have the cookie my thought is, "What am I having with or before the cookie?" The last several days I notice I haven't even touched the cookies despite having some big emotional moments. And I applaud you amazing athletes, while I am more Irish potato farmer. Lol. It's true.
It's also bizarre because I realize I have had disordered eating patterns pretty much my entire life as I have been reading an interesting book on eating disorders. I think trauma is interwoven with some parts and genetics ties into others. Yes, part of it was food insecurity and poverty. Part of it was soothing and coping skills for trauma. But none of it was actually listening to my body ... at all. It was chasing control.
So if you have been beating yourself up for eating too much or not enough or ruining the diet or not liking your body ... its not because you are doing something wrong. It's actually because of the way your brain is working.
I won't (can't) take the shots the whole populous is on because I have Hereditary Pancreatitis and thyroid issues run in my family. But I can do nature, and the changes to my brain are mind blowing. I am starting to be able to listen to what my body needs. The inflammation is lessened and so I went off one medication for joint pain that was not great on my gut. Yay!!
I also started admitting that since the girls and I had the "Divorced Dad Summer" my diet hasn't been what it used to be, which could be connected to the way my gut was bloating, and my fatigue was higher than my ferritin was low. I think next I may do a simple liver support to reboot now that my body is feeling better since the liver is the primary metabolic organ. I am definitely remembering now to incorporate mindfulness, using my essential oils, drinking enough water, and reaching for protein and veggies instead of chips, treats, the drive through, or starving my body.
All that to say there's hope. There are natural tools that can help your brain improve the connection to food. And that same connection is driving inflammation and many other body issues. Don't give up. You are attracting miracles because you are deserving of the life you desire.
